Red lips are all the rage this season. I received a some comments on a earlier post from readers who say they are worried they can’t pull off this look for various reasons. I was talking to a good friend and makeup artist about this over the weekend and found out it’s not true. Deep shades of red, like wine, compliment a variety of skin tones. Done right, it can be one of the easiest looks to pull off.
If you’re in your 20′s or 30′s “throw caution to the wind” says Starworks artists Kate Lee. Go bold with a deep red but keeping the rest of your face fresh and neutral with a nude eyeshadow, black eye liner and mascara.
For that worn in look, apply lipstick with your finger tips and blog off excess. Be sure to use a lip liner to help color stay on lips and keep from bleeding out.

For those who believe that red lips make a woman look older, makeup artist Sam Fine says “to hell with that rule. Wear strong color with confidence!” Go for a moisturizing creme lipstick and apply with a lip brush and blot with a tissue to keep lipstick from bleeding into fine lines around the lips. Apply a little gloss in the center of lips to add dimension. Again, keep the rest of your makeup neutral and fresh.
